Abstract

Infrared examination of solid materials that are unstable to atmospheric moisture or oxygen can be accomplished by the pressed-pellet technique only if precautions are taken to exclude these gases during sample preparation and scanning of the spectrum. A simple technique utilizing a dry box and an easily constructed sandwich-type cell has been developed in this laboratory and successfully used for obtaining the infrared spectra of many highly sensitive materials.
