Abstract
A novel technique was developed for determining trace elemental impurities in organic and metallo-organic materials by spark source mass spectrometry. After the organic material is dispersed and decomposed in spectroscopically pure graphite, the powder is briquetted and the resulting electrodes are sparked in the mass spectrometer. The analysis is limited only by the purity of the graphite and the background of the mass spectrometer. Many impurities can be detected and measured at the 1 to 100 ppb level.
