Abstract
A new method has been developed for the casting of polymer films for infrared analysis. Existing methods, such as hot-pressing the solid polymer or placing drops of a solution on a salt-plate and allowing the solvent to evaporate, have a number of serious disadvantages. The former is impractical for very thin films, whilst the latter rarely gives a sample of even thickness. Recently, a more satisfactory method was reported (1) but even this appears limited if the solubility of the polymer is very low.
