Abstract

The infrared spectra of normal and diabetic human urine were studied and the absorption peaks identified The major infrared absorbing components of normal urine were found to be urea, mono-and di-hydrogen phosphates, and sulfates Glucose absorption peaks were readily identified in the diabetic urine spectra "Synthetic" urine solutions were prepared which yielded spectra matching those of human urine samples. This infrared technique is shown to provide a basis for a simple and rapid analysis of these major components of urine.
