Abstract
At present, flame spectroscopy is done almost entirely with samples in solution form. Methods of introducing powder into a flame include placing it on a rotating asbestos wheel on the edge of the flame rolling it in paper and feeding it into the flame, and dispersing it in a liquid that is handled like a solution. Our approach has been to use a gas stream to carry powder into the flame. The only published technique of this type uses an aspirator and compressed air traveling along a trough These methods have been summarized.
