A Technique for the Use of the "Mini-Press" in Micro Infrared Spectroscopy

Abstract

The Wilks Mini-Press has been used extensively in our laboratory for detecting microgram quantities of various pharmaceutical drug products. Their instruction sheet states: "grind approximately 0.5 to 1.0 mg solid sample." However, by using the method described below we have been able to obtain spectra showing strong absorption bands of various pharmaceutical drugs with as little as 20 μg of material (see Fig. 1).
