Electron Microprobe Analysis of Precipitates in the Laser Crystal Material Fluorapatite

Abstract

Electron probe microanalysis has been used to identify precipitates in calcium fluorapatite Ca<sub>5</sub>(PO<sub>4</sub>)<sub>3</sub>F. Crystals grown from nonstoichiometric melts were found to have defects of either CaF<sub>2</sub> or Ca<sub>3</sub>(PO<sub>4</sub>)<sub>2</sub> depending on the melt composition.
