Abstract

In spectrochemical practice it is often necessary to perform analyses of strongly hygroscopic or deliquescent materials. The preparation of such specimens for quantitative determinations involving weighing, mixing with suitable additives, and loading into electrodes is difficult and sometimes entirely impossible. Further obstacles arise in the excitation step owing to swelling and sputtering of the sample caused by explosive evolution of water vapor.
