Abstract

The versatility of the diamond anvil cell (DAC) in combination with optical and vibrational spectroscopy has been demonstrated, both as a microanalytical tool and as a pressure cell. Owing to the small aperture in the DAC, it becomes necessary to condense the source beam for infrared studies. In the case of dispersive instruments a 4 to 6X beam condensation process has been used. In the case of interferometric measurements, a light-pipe has proven successful. In addition, a Perkin-Elmer 4X beam has been coupled with the Digilab model 14 and the Bruker IFS 114c.
