Production of DF* from Polytetrafluoroethylene and Deuterium Plasma as Observed in the Mid-Infrared by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy

Abstract

The reaction of a deuterium plasma and polytetrafluoroethylene has been investigated. Vibrationally excited DF* (up to v' = 3) has been observed in emission via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The vibrational and rotational temperatures suggest that a mechanism similar to that found previously for the reaction between H atoms and the fluoroethylenes is responsible for the production of the DF.
