Abstract

A novel technique for initiating and probing photochemical reactions is described. The technique involves the use of a video fluorometer for polychromatic sample illumination. This polychromatic illumination provides the energy for photo-induction of the monitored reaction as well as a method for simultaneously monitoring the excitation and emission spectra of all fluorescing species in the reaction. The advantages of this multicomponent approach are discussed using the photo-induced reactions of anthracene in polychlorinated alkanes as an example.
