Abstract
The aim of the present work was to develop a spectroscopic method for the routine determination of chromium in ruby crystals. Quantitative dissolution of the hard crystals is very difficult and can be accomplished only with an alkali fusion. Also, with this technique, there is a possibility of contamination from the fusion chemicals and the corrosion products from the reaction vessels. It was therefore decided to develop a method which does not require preliminary chemical preparation of the sample, thereby preventing contamination.
