Abstract

The third-order susceptibility is expressed as a summation of interfering resonant terms, each involving the phenomenological linewidth of the transition. Correlations of the finite line-width of the laser sources with |<i>X</i>(3)|2 (coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy) and –<i>X"</i> (stimulated Raman scattering) are performed and closed-form expressions for the theoretical profiles are obtained.
