Application of Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry (ICP) to the Analysis of Calcined Bauxites

Abstract

Inductive coupled plasma (ICP) has been used with high sensitivity and wide linear response range for high concentrations of calcined bauxites. Previously, bauxites were subjected to an elemental qualitative analysis by means of the direct current are emission spectrographic technique. The selection of specific analytical lines and spectral interferences in the ICP is reported and the relative standard deviation for the major elements is presented. The work is confirmed by a comparison of the results obtained by ICP vs. those attained by wet methods.
