Abstract

Demountable ICP torch bases make possible the rapid and inexpensive replacement of the portions of the torch glassware which become opaque, fused closed, or broken. The demountable torch base, designed by Windsor et al., has performed very satisfactorily in our laboratories for a number of years. This design has evolved into two simpler, more versatile designs which utilize readily available Cajon Co. (Macedonia, OH) Ultra-Torr fittings to minimize the machining necessary for torch base construction. This note describes two recent torch base designs: a one-piece base and a two-piece base.
