Abstract

The photoacoustic (PA) signal enhancement of an infrared-active mode of the adsorbed pyridine in the channel/cage of zeolites HZSM-5 and HY was studied comparatively with the use of photoacoustic, transmittance, and diffuse reflectance FT-IR spectroscopies. The data indicate that the PA enhancements of an infrared band of the adsorbed pyridine in the channel/cage of HY and HZSM-5 are 2.1 and 3.3, respectively. The importance of interstitial gas expansion in the photoacoustic signal enhancement of the surface infrared mode is discussed.
