The Optics InfoBase now offers several search options:
- Basic Search (search all fields)
- Advanced Search (search select fields, including journal, conference, OCIS code)
- Lookup/Browse (retrieve specific items by, e.g., journal, volume, issue)
Optics InfoBase has also introduced search result filters, which display how results are distributed across OCIS codes, journals, or conferences. The filters can be used to view the scope of search results and then narrow the search.
Use these guidelines on syntax, grouping, and wildcards for a more effective search:
Author name. Enter part of the author's name, e.g., "Smith, A" or "Smith" — use surname first, and use initials instead of full first names to increase matching. Searching for multiple authors and using search groups with parenthesis and Booleans must be performed in the Full-text field instead of the Author name field.
Grouping. Separate search groups with parentheses and Booleans, e.g., "(diode OR solid-state) AND laser". Use quotation marks to find words that must appear adjacent to one another; for example, the search "solid-state laser" will give results including both words together.
Wildcards. Improve efficiency in your search by using wildcards:
- Asterisk ( * ) - Example: "elect*" retrieves documents containing "electron," "electronic," and "electricity."
OSA conference papers are organized by meeting, year, and session. To search conference papers, select an acronym from the Conferences list on the InfoBase Advance Search or Lookup/Browse tab. Then specify any additional search criteria. Read more about OSA conference papers.
Can't locate an article?
All OSA journal articles (starting with J. Opt. Soc. Am., Vol. 1, Iss. 1) and a growing number of OSA conference papers have been digitized and placed in InfoBase.
