Biomedical Optics Feature Announcement

Optical Trapping Applications

We are pleased to announce a feature issue of Biomedical Optics Express associated with the OSA topical meeting Optical Trapping Applications, held at the Optics in the Life Sciences Congress in Waikoloa Beach, Hawaii, 14-18 April 2013. The feature issue welcomes papers presented at the conference, as well as related papers from authors who were not able to attend.

Optical Trapping Applications encompasses all areas of particle manipulation and measurement, from optical manipulation to acoustic trapping, emphasizing new and developing application areas. This meeting covers the whole range of topical particle manipulation technologies currently being developed for studies in biophysics, single molecule, single cell and tissue level analysis, lab-on-a-chip development, optomechanical cooling, environmental monitoring, and theoretical underpinnings. Technologies to be considered include optical tweezers and associated techniques, with additional emphasis on capturing synergies between different trapping and manipulation modalities such as acoustic trapping and electrical trapping, and the development of new hybrid techniques.

Biomedical Optics Express is OSA's principal outlet serving the biomedical optics community, featuring rapid, open-access publication of content related to optics, photonics and imaging in the life sciences. Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts that make use of the special features of Biomedical Optics Express and are particularly germane to biomedical content, such as inclusion of color figures, movies, and Interactive Science Publishing -- interactive presentation of 2D and 3D image data (see www.opticsinfobase.org/isp).

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual standards for submission to Biomedical Optics Express and must be uploaded through OSAs electronic-submission system (http://www.opticsinfobase.org/boe/journal/boe/author.cfm). When submitting, please specify that the manuscript is for the Optical Trapping Applications feature issue. Please note that submissions to the feature issues incur the normal publication fees for Biomedical Optics Express.
