Abstract

Limited depth of field (DOF) and low lateral resolution are two main shortages of conventional integral imaging for 3D display. In this paper, we demonstrate an experimental approach to enhancing DOF of an integral imaging system with coded elemental images captured by a cubic phase plate (CPP) coded camera array. After digital process of the coded elemental images, we obtained elemental images with enhanced DOF for 3D display. We employed the elemental images to reconstruct a real 3D image in a 7 x 7 lens array integral imaging system, indicating that proposed method can improve the depth of field and lateral resolution of integral imaging system significantly.
