Abstract

In this paper, a first comparison among ring and meshed optical networks is carried out. A first comparison is carried out on the ground of the initial network cost searching for the most cost-effective solution when the network topology characteristics and the traffic change. Then the cost related to the need of routing more traffic in the network or to the need of connecting a new node is considered, so to search in the different situations for the solution that can be more easily upgraded.
