We provide a global overview of current testbed activities on optical switching networks. The considered optical switching techniques provide different switching granularities and cost-performance tradeoffs. Our survey includes many new interesting and experimentally demonstrated features that are likely to lead to standardization, commercial adoption, and revenue generation in the near term.
