Variable Transformed Series Expansion Approach for the Analysis of Nonlinear Guided Waves in Planar Dielectric Waveguides

Abstract

Two series expansion methods to calculate modal properties of nonlinear planar dielectric waveguides are presented. Both methods are based on a tangent-type variable transformation of spatial coordinates: one uses Fourier exponentials and the other Chebyshev polynomials. It is shown that these methods can give very accurate results for a broad range of frequency and nonlinearity values.
