Abstract

A compact optical polarizer based on a directional coupler incorporating layered waveguide core structures is studied in detail in this paper. Important waveguide design parameters such as the guide width, guide separation, guide height, refractive index contrast, and wavelength dependence have been analyzed by using the vectorial H-field finite-element method. The optical power transfer characteristics have been calculated by using the least squares boundary residual methods.
