Abstract

A new simple model, based on the zigzag diagram of transmission-line theory, is used to predict the optical return loss (ORL) for an arbitrary array of concatenated reflective elements on a typical optical network. A very good agreement to ORL measurements performed on different types of optical fiber plant is found.
