Abstract

Small diameter hollow-core terahertz waveguide designs based on inhibited coupling hollow-core optical fibers are investigated. Rather than scaling up the entire structure, only resonant features in the cladding were scaled, shifting the transmission windows to longer wavelengths but not increasing the overall diameter of the waveguide by the same factor. Trade-offs between structure size and loss using this approach are quantified through numerical simulations. An idealized waveguide consisting of a simplified capillary structure is also investigated for comparison.
