Transmission properties for two-level optically labeled signals with amplitude-shift keying and differential phase-shift keying orthogonal modulation in IP-over-WDM networks

Abstract

We investigate the transmission characteristics of a two-level optically labeled signal with amplitude-shift keying (ASK) and differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) modulation. Theoretical analysis suggests that a precompensation scheme has a better transmission performance for a 10-Gbit/s ASK payload and 2.5-Gbit/s DPSK label compared with postcompensation, which has been confirmed by our transmission experiment. The limitations resulting from the extinction ratio and the laser linewidth are also discussed.
