Abstract

Feature Issue on Passive Optical Network Architectures and Technologies

A performance overview is presented of the state-of-the-art physical-layer chipset to achieve high-performance uplink burst-mode transmissions for a 1.25 Gbits/s optical Ethernet passive optical network system. System requirements and optical diagnostic challenges are discussed with demonstrated system performance exceeding the specifications defined in IEEE 802.3ah standards.
