Abstract
FIR digital filters based on a minimum-mean-square-error criterion are determined for the restoration of images that undergo bilinear (quadratic and with memory) distortion in the presence of additive, signal-independent noise. Results are applied to one- and two-dimensional images distorted in partially coherent imaging systems. The effects of coherence, noise, and the length of the FIR filter on image restorability are assessed.
