He wrote on physics, astronomy, chemistry, botany, entomology, statistics, geodetics, egyptology, carpentry, tides, colloids, the structure of covered ways and bridges. His paper "On the Forms Best Suited for Teeth," refers not to dentistry but to cog wheels.
