Abstract
The absorption of twelve alkaloids was investigated between 1.00μ and 12.00μ with constant deviation spectrometers employing rocksalt and fluorite prisms. The compounds investigated were α-β-dipyridyl, anabasine, neo-nicotine, methyl anabasine, nicotine, spartine, spartine sulphate, pelletierine, arecoline, arecoline hydrobromide, pilocarpine, and pilocarpine hydrochloride. Anabasine and neo-nicotine are presumably the same alkaloid, anabasine being a plant extract and neo-nicotine a synthetic product. They show, however, different absorption characteristics. As is to be expected the absorption bands corresponding to the C–N, C–H, C–H2 and benzene ring frequencies are present.
