Abstract

The simple heat treatment for decoloring fluorite crystals of various hues is described. The improvement in transmittance is shown by means of spectrophotometer curves.

  2. Although at the present time there exists a technique for producing synthetic CaF2, the heat treatment discussed in this note is simple as well as very inexpensive and may render available for optical purposes a reasonable fraction of what is now inferior fluorite.
