Abstract
This paper describes two determinations which have been made of the refractive index at a wave-length of 10μ of a film of antimony trisulfide prepared by evaporation at a pressure of 10−4 mm of mercury. The first determination was made from transmission measurements of an antimony trisulfide film on a plate of silver chloride. The resulting index value was 2.43 at 10μ. The second determination was made from a dispersion curve which was extrapolated to a point in the visible spectrum where the index was obtained from a measurement of Brewster’s angle. The dispersion curve was obtained from the values of the wave-lengths of maximum and minimum transmission of an antimony trisulfide film of optical thickness four waves at 632 mµ which had been prepared on a plate of sodium chloride. The resulting index value was 2.5 at a wave-length of 10μ.
