Abstract

A number of recent improvements in microscope illumination are discussed. Several applications of complex-shaped optical elements of transparent plastic are shown. A small fluorescent lamp designed for lower power microscopy is described. Two applications of movable condenser lens systems are given in which the illuminated field and aperture are concurrently varied by the lens motion. Some applications of high and low index interference films and of evaporated metallic films are described. The use of the new zirconium oxide source in microscopy is discussed.
