Abstract

Because of their sensitivity to mechanical pressure, photographic emulsions will reproduce accurately surface contours pressed against them. This offers a new method for preparing high contrast transparent replicas for microscopy. Some photomicrograms of replicas which have been prepared in this way are reproduced here. The technique may find useful application in the microscopy of metallurgical and other opaque surfaces.
