Abstract

Methods of fabricating Raman scattering tubes and infra-red absorption cells of chemically resistant polytrifluorochloroethylene are described. Curves showing the infra-red transmission of the material are given. Approximate values for the visible and ultraviolet transmission are also included.

  1. At present, the material is being manufactured by Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Corporation at Oak Ridge, under the name of Fluorothene. Inquiries should be addressed to the Atomic Energy Commission, Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
  2. Known locally as fluorothene-W. This is partially polymerized trifluorochloroethylene, m.p. 70–90°C.
