The Rise in Brightness of Infra-Red Sensitive Phosphors

Abstract

Scott, Thompson, and Ellickson found that the rise in brightness of double activated infra-red sensitive phosphors such as SrS·Eu-Sm shows in some cases a jump, in others not. The jump and the slope of the curves of brightness versus time at the beginning are not proportional to the intensity of the infra-red. A model of such phosphors is described and later used to calculate the curves. The resulting equations contain both the jump and the deviation of the proportionality to the intensity of the infra-red, if the filling of traps is considered. The magnitude of the jump strongly depends on the height of a level.
