Abstract
A study has been made of infrared spectra of metallic salts containing groups of the XO2-type ion. It has been shown that metaborate (and orthoborate) polymerize. Vibration spectra of the metallic metaborates indicate that the BO2− does not exist in the free state but under the polymerized form (BO2)n. Postulations are made concerning this structure.
