Abstract

A method for the choice of glasses in Taylor Triplets, in which the glasses of the first and third lenses are identical, is described. By using the conditions for total power, longitudinal chromatic aberration, Petzval sum, transverse chromatic aberration, and good distribution of power between the first and third lenses, the power of the second lens, as well as its deviation divided by the aperture are calculated for different glass combinations. These are compared and the most suitable glass pair selected. Finally the diaphragm, initially assumed to be in contact with the second lens, is shifted to a position where a condition of distortion is also satisfied.
