Ronchi Test of Fifth-Order Aberrations

Not Accessible

Abstract

The Ronchi test of focusing symmetrical optical instruments is described. The test patterns of fifth-order aberrations are evaluated and compared with those of the third order. The same types of aberration, irrespective of their order, yield the same type of pattern. It is concluded that the test is well suited to determine the general character of the error pertinent to the instrument.
