Digital Circuit for Measurement of Spectral Line Intensities

Abstract

A digital circuit for measurement of the integrated dc signal from a photosensitive device has been designed and constructed. The principal part is an analog-to-digital converter using a step integrator. With the auxiliary circuit added, the converter has nonlinear characteristics, which linearizes a nonlinear input. The long-term lack of reproducibility of the analog-to-digital conversion is less than ±0.1% of the full-scale count. The nonlinear analog-to-digital conversion system, for instance, makes possible a direct readout of the element concentration in the emission spectrochemical analysis.
