Mathematical Resolution of Overlapping Spectral Lines

Not Accessible

Abstract

This paper presents two methods for decomposing into individual components an observed spectrum composed of a number of overlapping spectral lines, each having the same known shape. The first method of solution described is for lines all of the same half-width and is based on properties of the Fourier transform of even functions. The second method presented is an iterative least-squares procedure for lines of different half-widths and for which a computer program is available.
