Absorption of Nonparallel Radiation

Not Accessible

Abstract

The transmittance of an absorbing medium with plane-parallel surfaces is calculated for two cases: (1) radiation generated isotropically inside the medium, and (2) incident diffuse radiation. The calculations are made for two values of index of refraction of the medium relative to its surroundings, n=1.0 and 1.5. In each case, an equivalent absorption coefficient is defined empirically such that the correct transmittance is obtained from the simpler expressions for incident parallel radiation.
