Absorption Cross Sections and f Values of Krypton and Xenon in their Ionization Continuum

Abstract

Absorption cross sections of krypton and xenon have been measured below their ²P12-ionization limit down to 230 Å, with one value below this at 170 Å. These data are compared to those of previous investigators. The oscillator strength for all electron transitions into the continuum in this wavelength region has been measured by integrating the experimental curve of cross section vs wavenumber. A total f value of 6.2 was found for both krypton and xenon.
