Exposure Criteria for the Photographic Detection of Threshold Signals

Not Accessible

Abstract

The problem of detecting threshold signals with a photographic film is analyzed in terms of the function known as “detective quantum efficiency.” Two known methods of increasing threshold-signal exposure (time integration of the signal and preflashing the film) are considered. Optimum exposure criteria are derived for each of these methods, and their relative effectiveness is demonstrated with a numerical example.
