Optical Faraday Effect in Atomic Hydrogen

Not Accessible

Abstract

Verdet’s constant of atomic hydrogen in the 3000Å–9000Å range is calculated, taking account of transitions to the continuum and the interaction of the spin magnetic moment of the electron with the magnetic radiation field. Numerical results are given for seven wavelengths and an application of the Faraday effect to the determination of the atomic concentration in a mixture of atomic and molecular hydrogen is discussed.
