Abstract

The absorption cross section of the 4F3/24I11/2 (1.056 μ) and 4F3/24I13/2 (1.334 μ) transitions of Nd+3 in SeOCl2, and the overall radiative lifetime of the 4F3/2 state, have been calculated from spectroscopic measurements. Values of the order of 8.5×10−20 cm2 for σν of the 1.056-μ transition and 288 μsec for τoverall were found, implying a quantum efficiency of the order of unity.
