Abstract

Thirteen new terms of the 4f14(1S0)nl doublet system of Lu2+ have been found, comprising the ns series (7 ≤ n ≤ 10), the nf series (5 ≤ n ≤ 9), and the 5g, 6d, 7d, and 7p terms. Previously, only the 5d, 6s, and 6p terms were known. The ns series was used to derive an ionization energy of 169049±10 cm−1. From the completely resolved hyperfine structure (hfs) of 6s 2S1/2, the value a(6s) = 0.436±0.002 cm−1 was obtained for the hyperfine splitting factor. With these data, the nuclear magnetic dipole moment μI was found to be 2.204±0.010μN, where the stated uncertainty includes only the experimental uncertainty for a(6s).
