Fast Computing of Color Matching by Means of Matrix Manipulation, II. Reflection-Type Color Print

Abstract

Color matching today is based upon the metamerism principle, which necessitates agreement of only a trichromatic specification. The dye densities required for a metameric color match in a transmission-type color film can be easily computed by assuming the Lambert–Beer law. On the other hand, formulation of a metameric color match in a reflection-type color print is not easy, because of a nonlinear relation between the corresponding reflection and transmission densities (or dye amount), and because of the dependence of reflection density upon viewing conditions. A theoretical treatment of metameric color reproduction in multilayer color prints has been investigated and validified. The computer program for this treatment has been investigated for IBM-1130 in fortran iv language.
