Ocular-dioptric-component changes in the growing rabbit

Abstract

Periodic measurements of the refractive state and ocular dioptric components of six New Zealand white rabbits were carried out by ultrasonic, ophthalmometric, and photographic approaches. The results established that corneal and crystalline-lens changes offset an increase in axial length to create a dynamic equilibrium of refractive state throughout the growth period from eight to one-hundred weeks of age. Control measurements of freshly removed rabbit ocular-component material confirmed the order of magnitude of size and curvature of the in vivo measurements reported.
