Abstract

At a hanging mercury drop the optical constants of mercury from the mercury–air interface have been measured. Practical details and the advantages of the method are described. The optical constants obtained, n = 1.84 ± 0.16 and k = 5.24 ± 0.16 at 6328 Å fit well into values known from literature at different wavelengths.
